as country as i get

well, the powers of the hyogo board of education sent 100 gaijin teachers to an education centre / bootcamp in yashiro - a country-ish town in the middle of hyogo-ken. many bland lectures, some useful information, an encyclopedia of stupid questions and one litre cans of beer from vending machines. the liver taking a few days off, so ive time to post this...

escaped the hyogo gaijin massive for a quiet snack, beer and cigarette. yoshiro is only a country town due its levelness; no amalgamations of department stores and apartments blooming neon flowers, no expressways held above homes by avenues of shoplets and sea container clothing stores. found a park (grass, glorious grass) and there is some blue to the sky here - wait, even some sun to coax a rare lucidity of colour from this land. theres a cemetary behind some hedges, but i dont want to sully it with my tourist curiosity and mobile camera. instead i'll settle with the mountain vista, undeveloped (unlike takarazuka) and monocrome with clouds, steam and the sweat of the population.

saw the most uncanny scarecrows in the rice paddys on the bus ride here: plastic heads mounted on poles throughout the crops. quite disconcerting; wish id got a photo. speaking of which, heres a shot worse than my prose.

xx

So you made it over there, did you? I'm impressed. Never thought they'd take a wastrel like you.

I'm still a bookpimp. You get that. Happier these days, though. Come back via Sydney and we'll catch up in a year or so - or whenever you plan to return. Or we could just blog at each other.
