Either Oscar is getting bigger or I'm getting smaller

oscar_and_nat.jpg

Oscar and I are becoming the best of friends. The more time we spend together the more we understand what each other is about.
Oscar has recently learnt how to shake my hand (for an almond of course) and to pee on command. This is seriously the best dog I could have asked for.
I'm going to teach him 101 dog tricks and then create a comedy show out of it by subtly dropping in the cues or hand signals as part of the story. (Warning, this may not happen so don't book your tickets quite yet).

OK, you have to tell me how you got him to pee on command! This could come in very handy...

Ok Christina - here's the run down.
They need a word associated with doing a wee. I chose 'weewee' which I sort of regret. Choose whatever you feel comfortable saying in public!
To start you must be in their company when they are likely to wee - you can set it up by giving them water and food and when it might be getting close to wee time and when they look like they are about to do it (sniffing around) then go outside and say 'wee wee' and point to a place until eventually they do it.
This is used in combination with whenever they just so happen to do a weewee to say 'wee wee good boy!' and get really excited.
They need to build that association.
I also make sure they know what 'outside' is. By shooing them out there and pointing.
Then I tell Oscar "outside weewee' so he knows outside only.
Soon enough it becomes a take them outside, point and say 'do wee wee' and eventually it's done.
Helps if you go to a place where he can smell his own wee or another dogs.

Well! Hopefully that's a good help!

That was my inspiration!! My friend Anita had it - that was when I made my grand plan (on Monday).

I use potty and poo most of the time, my 4 year old daughter has a bladder of steal and my baby boy just loves the word poo. Tricks is another thing, my daughter plays most of her tricks on me (not publishable as mainly rather rude) and my baby tickles himself pink with all the new things he is learning to recognise. I guess this is very similar in a lot of ways to puppies, I always wanted a dog and as we are building a house in Portugal Oscar is becoming a favorite of mine too but picking up poop is not on my adgenda right now! love him x
