Interaction Time!

It's been too long since I wandered through the streets with my camera.
I need your help!!
I'd like to develop a list of things to search for each day as I walk to work.
I was thinking of individual colours, like red one day, then purple, then yellow.... I could do this.. But perhaps you can think of other themes for me to go image-searching for. Could be quite obscure, literal or conceptual.
Then I'll spend one day on each and build a little palette of my favourites.
The one above is Janelle Cugley's photos from Melbourne that I made into a palette for her last year. It's just a snippet of a massive one!....

So please comment and give me some inspiration.

No real inspiration (I, too, work in Mt Lawley, so have probably got used to seeing the same things day in, day out, as you have!), but instead a question:
What program do you use to create the palettes? I have many, many (many many many) photos that I've been wanting to combine into something snazzy like this, but alas - my technical skills are very limited!
PS, love your site :) You inspire me to be a more creative human being!

Hey Erin,
Good to hear from you - regardless of no ideas for me!
I did this palette in photoshop, just drew up guidelines, drew a marquee within each 'box', and pasted in the image. Then it is easy to resize to the exact positioning you want. (transform = "apple T")
You could also try using InDesign and save out as a PDF and open this in Photoshop to create a jpeg.
Now, this is one long winded process, I don't know of any programs that automatically spaff out a grid structure with your images inserted. Closest thing is programs that allow you to do contact sheets but they are often quite low quality.
I'm sure if you didn't want to edit the cropping or customise the order there must be something....
(off to do research...)
10 minutes later...
Can't find shit - but try (if on a PC) this program Picasso - picasa.google.com.au/download/index.html
It allows you to make contact sheets, perhaps with no words and spacing you can achieve something similar and save as a jpeg.
Best of luck!
x

Thanks Nat!
I'm a Mac user, but I'm sure I can figure something out... need to get myself a copy of Photoshop, I think.
Thanks for you help!

I like the idea of colours, but how about finding similar shapes, as well? All round lines one day, all square uniformity the next...

As red is my fave colour I'd say definitely do a red theme. How about "curves" or "rough" or "hidden/look closer" - just throwing ideas around. Hope they may be useful!

Yes, I think I'll do a colour or two. Red and maybe yellow.
I like the theme of 'curves' or 'squares'.
What about things more open to interpretation... like 'hidden' - as Krissy suggests.
Yesterday I was thinking 'broken' or an emotion like 'sad'.
Maybe I could do 'Pairs'.

What about letters in signs - see how many different styles / fonts of one letter you can see.
Or lights - it's probably getting dark around home time, so you can take photos of shop / street lights perhaps?

How about Growth and Decay? New and Old? Trusses! Cranes, Trains and Automobiles? Witches hats, Barricades...
Bit of a construction theme here....why not make the most of Perth's boom in ugly?
For something more inspiring...LeafCurl

on the pairs theme - what about binaries or ironies - visuals that are stark juxtapositions or contradictions..
